Frequently Asked Questions

Do you take insurance?
  • I am in-network for BCBS (except Blue Value Plans). I accept self-pay for all other insurance companies and will give you a superbill to submit to your company for reimbursement for out-of-network providers. Please view the Fees and Insurance page for more information on fees and reimbursement.
How do I schedule an appointment?
  • If you would like to make an appointment, please call 919-338-3959
  • New patients do not need a referral, unless otherwise stated by your insurance carrier.
  • If you have a referral from your doctor or therapist, it is helpful if you give your treating provider permission to share records with me in advance. (See below) Please have your provider forward your records to my office prior to your first visit. We can formally discuss an authorization to release information at your first visit and/or you may download the Release Form from the New Patient Paperwork page.
  • Please download and print the appropriate New Patient Paperwork, then bring the completed forms to your first visit.
How do I get records from another doctor forwarded to you?
  • Most doctors will not release your confidential medical or mental health records without your permission. To have your records sent to me, please directly request from your other provider(s) that your relevant records be sent to my office. It is best to make this request in writing and either hand-deliver or fax to the sending office.
  • Feel free to utilize my authorization for Release of Confidential Information form, which you can download here or obtain from my office.
  • My fax number is 919-419-0505
What should I expect at the first visit?
  • If you have not already completed the New Patient Paperwork, please arrive at least 30 minutes early so that you can fill out the forms before we meet. This will help us to make the most of our time together. Arriving early will also allow time for any unexpected difficulties getting to my office.
  • When you arrive, you will find a clipboard with the new patient forms on a small table by the couch in the entrance.
  • Most initial visits are 90 minutes and include an initial assessment.
  • During the initial assessment, I will review your current medical records and may request additional information from previous providers.  I will talk with you about the emotional, cognitive, educational, occupational, physical, genetic, developmental, family, peer, and social components of your presenting problem. You and I will act as a team to make sure all important information is covered so that I will best know how to help you and to make the most accurate recommendations for you.
  • With your written permission, I also may interview spouses, family members, peers, teachers, clergy, and others.
  • The second visit will be used to review your presenting diagnosis and the recommended treatment plan. If all parties are agreeable, a client/therapist relationship will begin to be established.
  • Should you be in active treatment with a psychiatrist (receiving medication) prior to initiating an evaluation with me, I will coordinate treatment with that doctor and you. Should we decide that medication may be of benefit, I will recommend at least one psychiatrist you can consult or you may visit one of your own choosing.
